Sleep Quality Calculator

The Sleep Quality Calculator provides an assessment of a user’s sleep efficiency. It collects estimated times in response to several questions and does not require precise answers. The results give an overview of sleep quality and potential areas for improvement.

The user will be required to input the estimated time for the different questions, like:

  1. What time did you go to bed?
  2. When did you attempt to sleep (turned off the lights)?
  3. What time did you actually fall asleep?
  4. How many times did you wake up during the night
  5. How long did these awakenings last in total (in minutes)?
  6. What time did you wake up in the morning?
  7. When did you get out of bed to begin your day?

Score calculation

The following formulas will be applied to the answers that the user provided:

Sleep duration

Sleep duration = Time asleep (Question 6 - Question 3) - Minutes awake during night (Question 5)

Sleep efficiency

Sleep efficiency (%) = (Sleep duration / Time in bed) x 100

Score Calculation

The percentage of sleep efficiency is interpreted as follows:

Score rangeEfficiency Level
95% or greaterElevated sleep efficiency
90% - 95%Ideal sleep efficiency
80% - 89% Acceptable sleep efficiency
Less than 80%Low sleep efficiency

Default Email Responses

Each efficiency level has its own default email response that gets sent to the user after they submit their contact details. The default email contents can be customized when setting up your sleep quality calculator to match your messaging better.

Elevated sleep efficiency (95% or greater)

Although this may seem optimal, very high sleep efficiency can sometimes indicate you're not spending enough time in bed, possibly leading to sleep deprivation.

Ideal sleep efficiency (90%-95%)

This range is ideal for most adults and suggests that you're spending most of your time in bed actually asleep.

Acceptable sleep efficiency (80%-89%)

This is the lower end of the healthy range. While occasional dips are normal, consistently low scores may point to areas for improvement in your sleep habits.

Low Sleep efficiency (<80%)

A score below 80% suggests poor sleep efficiency. This may be due to frequent awakenings or difficulty staying asleep, and it's worth exploring ways to improve sleep quality.
